NEWS FROMCPA MEMBERS: 2 The iconic BBC Television Centre (TVC) has acquired a new Palazzani XTJ32 tracked spider access platform from TCA Lifting Limited for maintenance of the redeveloped facility in White City, West London. As the UK and Ireland distributor for Palazzani, TCA Lifting supplied one of their own XTJ32 rental machines for an initial trial while it was used to carry out a final clean and some snagging before the building was officially opened. For more than 50 years, the original Television Centre building was the headquarters of the BBC before being redeveloped by Stanhope Plc. The award winning redevelopment has seen the Television Centre site opened up and transformed into a mixed use development including office and studio space for the BBC and entertainment and leisure facilities including a hotel and cinema. Painted in TVC’s black livery, the Palazzani XTJ32 hybrid model was subsequently chosen following extensive trials to ensure its suitability and safe operation at height. The telescopic fly-jib allows the machine to be accurately positioned at height and a proximity cage protection system improves safety and reduces the risk of damage to the building fabric. The XTJ32 is available with a variety of power options but the environmentally friendly hybrid version was selected for its ability to move around the 14 acre site either silently and fume free when required or using the advanced ’silent pack’ diesel engine. On Track NewMachines for AGD Equipment AGD Equipment has expanded its fleet with the addition of two 55 tonne capacity Marchetti CW55.40 telescopic crawler cranes. The new cranes are equipped with Tier 4F engines, along with a full virtual wall system for when working next to locations such as carriageways, railways and airports. Orders are also in place to expand the AGD fleet further with the addition of four 45 tonne capacity Marchetti CW45.30 telescopic crawler cranes, all with Tier 4F engines, plus two Sennebogen 70 tonne capacity 673E telescopic crawler cranes with Tier 5 engines. All six cranes are scheduled to arrive in the first quarter of 2019 and will take AGD Equipment’s rental fleet of telescopic crawler cranes up to a total of 44 cranes ranging from 3 tonne to 80 tonne in capacity. One of AGD Equipment’s Marchetti CW25.35 cranes was recently on hire to Kier at Castlepoint Shopping Centre in Bournemouth. This crane was selected due to the confined working area and restricted access to site which was via the ground floor car park. Its compact design, along with a lifting capacity of 25 tonne and full virtual wall system, meant it was the ideal machine for the job. Another consideration was the noise level under operation, so AGD Equipment provided a brand new crane with a Tier 4F engine, to lessen the impact on the shoppers still using the centre. AGD Equipment now has a total of 10 Marchetti CW25.35 cranes in the company’s rental fleet.
