CPA Bulletin

POLICY: 2 www.cpa.uk.net CPA Bulletin > February 2020 17 identifies talent in the years to come. But this is nothing new. The wider construction industry has seemingly been in a perpetual skills shortage for decades, so what is new? If the UK is to prosper outside of the EU, it will still need to attract labour from overseas. The work of the Construction Leadership Council and the Migration Advisory Committee has highlighted how reliant construction remains on attracting both skilled and unskilled labour. While the workforce will still incorporate workers from overseas, it is even more important than ever that we see improvements in the domestic skills base and that talent retention in the industry is a key priority for both government and industry. Building on our strengths Construction remains a core part of the UK’s economic wellbeing, a leading indicator showing when times are good and when they are bad. Companies in the UK plant-hire sector have been at the vanguard of this process, experiencing the changes the industry has seen in the first two decades of this millennium, working with clients in meeting deadlines, exceeding expectations and acting as fantastic ambassadors for our industry. Whatever happens in the next 10 years, this will continue.
