Combined Industries Theft Solutions (CITS) AGM - Summary PLANT THEFT: 1 CITS Guide for Theft Prevention This has been published and is available in either a hard-copy format or electronic version. The good practice guide suggests methods in protecting plant from theft, and also promotes educating and training employees and customers in securing plant. The document offers general guidance on anti-theft and recovery systems, as well as registration systems. There is also advice in tackling hire fraud. CITSWorkshops There have been two different workshops held this year, the first on cybercrime/fraud in conjunction with the officers from Operation Falcon and the Metropolitan Police, and the other on labour exploitation in conjunction with the Gangmaster and Labour Abuse Authority (GLAA). These were free-to-attend events, and those who attended had found them very informative. There was a discussion on holding other workshops. Possible subjects raised were on: • Protecting workers who use surveying equipment • Securing vans and contents • Checking procedures when supplying plant to new customers • Securing depots or site compound areas CITS Conference There was a suggestion that this should focus on technological advances and future technology. The concept for the conference - likely to be held in November 2020 - would highlight how depots, sites and plant could be best protected in a multi layered approach to beat professional criminals. Theft and fraud Theft and fraud continue to harm our industry. Fraud has become more prolific and as a collective, we should encourage clients, suppliers and owners to report any fraud incidents to Action Fraud, and through the CPA.
