www.cpa.uk.net CPA Bulletin > February 2023 25 POLICY: 2 on the environment. Get this right and the prize is a sector playing its full role in the low carbon future, attracting new skills and developing and utilising, innovative new technologies. Unless the political landscape changes dramatically this year, 2023 is the last full year of this Parliament, before we can expect a general election. Although January 2025 is the very latest the Government can call one, it is expected that the Prime Minister will go to the country at some point in the Spring or Summer of next year. This year provides an opportunity for further engagement with ministers but also the opposition, both of whom will be looking to cultivate ideas and reach out to the business community. We will keep you updated on this work and how we develop the CPA’s messaging to Westminster and the devolved nations. A manifesto for construction should concentrate on building on the resilience and adaptability of the construction sector in what remain challenging times. The last three years has tested the sector in ways we could not imagine during the 2019 general election. It is essential Government policy supports construction, with actions that enhance, not undermine, our work leading the plant-hire sector. This year also provides an opportunity to reach out to CPA members and understand more first-hand, about how members view the current economic situation, how they are attracting and retaining talent within the industry, and how the plant-hire sector continues to adapt and recover from the pandemic, while also building for the future. We are coming up to 12 months in April, since the removal of the red diesel rebate and the right of construction companies to use red diesel. We want to find out how this has impacted members, what steps they have taken to combat fuel theft, the changes they have made to their operations and their experiences in terms of fuel theft and what alternative fuels they have looked at or indeed, utilised. We will be developing a short survey for members, but with the wide range of trade shows and events we will be attending this year, it would be great to talk to as many members directly as possible as well. We are only as good as the information and insight we gain from our members, therefore I would welcome the chance to visit and discuss the approach members are taking in order to grow and sustain their business. Please do contact me at chris @ cpa.uk.net or speak to me directly at 07399 490322 . We will also build on the return to having the CPA Conference held in person, with attendees, sponsors and exhibitors all together, under one roof. This year, we want a return to core issues affecting our members, with the Conference hearing directly on what the challenges are, and how we as an industry, can come together and overcome them. The CPA Conference 2023 - Facing The Challenges in the Plant-hire Sector will be held on 9th November 2023.
