www.cpa.uk.net CPA Bulletin > May 2019 57 TRAINING: 2 TRAINING As we reported in the last issue of the CPA Bulletin, the Institute for Apprenticeships (IfA) has granted approval for delivery of the new Hire Controller (Plant, Tools and Equipment) Trailblazer Apprenticeship. This comes on the back of several years’ of hard work by an employer-led Trailblazer Working Group who determined that a Hire Controller Trailblazer Apprenticeship Programme was critical in order to attract new recruits to the construction plant industry, as well as upskilling existing staff into a new role. On 7th May 2019, the three supporting federations of the new Hire Controller Trailblazer Apprenticeship - namely CPA, HAE and IPAF along with CITB - hosted a launch day at which training providers, awarding bodies and employers were invited with the aim of promoting the apprenticeship and enabling training providers and assessment organisations to get up to speed on delivery requirements. The standard containing the skills, knowledge and behaviours for the apprenticeship, as well as the assessment plan, can be downloaded from: www.instituteforapprenticeships.org/apprenticeship-standards/ hire-controller-plant-tools-and-equipment/ The CPA will be listing organisations that offer training and assessments for this trailblazer at www.cpa.uk.net/ trailblazerproviders/ . For more information, please contact Peter Brown at trailblazers@cpa.uk.net An industry-led working group is developing a Trailblazer Apprenticeship at level 2 for the occupation of Construction Plant Operative and has developed the duties for the occupation, along with the requisite knowledge, skills and behaviours that form the basis for the training programme and assessment process. As part of the approval submission process, the draft standard has been through a public consultation process and adjustments were made prior to the submission deadline in May 2019. The group have started work on the assessment and are aiming to have this apprenticeship available for delivery by the close of 2019.
