Currently, our electric fleet comprises of 0.8T dumpers, 1.8T and 3T excavators, 6M telehandlers and 4T loading shovels, and we were the first UK plant hire company to welcome a 3T Volvo ECR25 Electric Excavator to our fleet. “We are collaborating with our manufacturers to trial many electric alternatives, including new solar powered charging options for customers to use on site in place of diesel generators, to find the best solutions for a greener industry.” Chris Gill, Director JCB JCB has introduced its first ever electric site dumper - a one tonne high-tip model powered by lithium-ion battery technology. Designed to work indoors, underground and in emissions-sensitive areas, the 1TE electric dumper is an ideal partner for JCB’s 19C-1E electric mini excavator. Key features include zero emissions and low noise levels, fast charge capability, full shift operation in typical use and a high-tip skip design to allow loading into skips and larger containers. The power is supplied by two 5kWh lithium-ion batteries, capable of providing full shift operation in normal use. The batteries can be recharged from conventional site electrical supplies, with 110V and 230V cables available. Productivity and performance are identical to the conventional diesel model, both in travel speeds and in tipping cycle times. MHM “At MHM we’re seeing an increasing demand for alternatives to fossil fuels, so electric powered products are becoming more popular, in view of that we have launched a dedicated division ‘MHM ECO’ to showcase our portfolio of products which cater to the market looking for greener alternatives. “As a manufacturer we have focused on developing power generation and site lighting using electric power. We designed solar hybrid generators, reducing the run time of diesel engines - an advantage over diesel only options. We are one of the only manufacturers who supply a range of all-in-one solar hybrid diesel generators from 3.5kVA to 100VA. “We have site lighting which is completely diesel and engine free operated by a solar panel and battery power only. We are there with site lighting but with regards to power generation we are waiting for the technologies to evolve. “In addition, to meet the needs of electrification on sites we have also launched an EV charger which is designed and suited for rental, event and construction applications.” STEPS TO CARBON ZERO: 3
