Nicol of Skene, one of the leading civil engineering contractors in the North East of Scotland, has added two MTS DINO suction excavation units to the fleet working out of Aberdeen. The DINO8 and DINO12 systems are designed and manufactured by MTS GmbH based in Germersheim. Nicol Of Skene initially ventured into suction excavation in 2017 with equipment that enabled them to introduce their clients to the safe excavation methods that the systems offer. Benefits of the use of the equipment include reductions in buried plant damages and the associated costs of repairs, compensation and inconvenience to end users, and more importantly reduction of the risk of injury to operatives on site. Following growth in demand for the equipment, especially for larger works and excavations, Nicol of Skene identified the need for larger capacity and more powerful equipment and committed to the purchase of the two twin 900mm fan DINO units. The first - a DINO8 on a 6x2 rear steer chassis with 8m3 capacity - was chosen for its excellent manoeuvrability in rural and urban areas, and the second a DINO12 on a 32 tonne 8x4 Tridem chassis with 12m3 spoil capacity. WM Donald, one of the leading civils, utilities and construction providers in North Scotland, has also added MTS suction equipment to the company’s plant portfolio. WM Donald chose MTS DINO Triple Fan Technology to enable them to not only increase their provision of safe excavation solutions to their clients, but also to expand into works requiring increased suction performance. The MTS Triple Fan Unit provides market leading suction performance in standard and extreme environments. The increased performance from the 900mm Triple Fan Unit allows for increased capability with distanced and depth works. Hyundai Construction Equipment is introducing a further two EU Stage V compliant A-Series crawler excavators, with the launch of the HX160A L and the HX180A L. These mid-weight machines are powered by the latest Cummins diesel engines, achieving Stage V emissions standards without the need for Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR). Offering improved fuel consumption, the 16 and 18-tonne models deliver improved operating speed and performance, with increased visibility and safety.
