32 CPA Bulletin > May 2022 www.cpa.uk.net ESTA: 1 ESTA Wagenborg Nedlift from the Netherlands and Fagioli from Italy were the big winners in the 2022 ESTA Awards that took place in Noordwijk on the Dutch coast, receiving seven of the ten awards on offer between them. The three remaining categories were won by Schot Verticaal Transport, Liebherr-Werk Nenzing and Spierings Mobile Cranes. The awards dinner, the first to be held in person since 2019, was attended by over 350 guests from across Europe and finalists from seven different countries - Belgium, Denmark, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands, Turkey and the UK. The winners of the three major crane categories were as follows: Category - TELESCOPIC CRANES, LIFTING CAPACITY LESS THAN 120 TONNES AND KNUCKLE BOOMS Wagenborg Nedlift won for installing a new 122 metre suspension bridge’s deck sections that could not be lifted at long radius from above. The installation was achieved using an articulating loader crane on a truck on a spud barge instead of a giant crane reaching from the river bank. Category - TELESCOPIC CRANES, LIFTING CAPACITY MORE THAN 120 TONNES Schot Verticaal Transport employed a trio of wheeled mobile cranes of up to 500 tonnes capacity to unload, turn and position six tanks, each 30 metres long, nearly 10 metres in diameter and weighing 67 tonnes, in a limited and operational working area. Category - LATTICE BOOM CRANES Fagioli needed three crawler cranes and barges when the submerged wreck of a ship in pieces weighing up to 800 tonnes had to be lifted and removed from a dock in the Italian port of Ravenna on the Mediterranean. The UK had three finalists but none of themwere outright winners on the night. In the category for transport projects over 120 tonnes gross weight, Collett & Sons and Allelys both lost out to Fagioli , while Mammoet’s UK armwas outvoted by Liebherr-Werk Nenzing in the safety award. Mammoet was shortlisted for designing and developing a fully demountable platform, ladder and barrier structure for working at height which can be used on more than one size of mobile crane in the UK to minimise risks with no negative impact on the crane’s structural integrity or operation. However, they were defeated by Liebherr’s new 400 tonne capacity LR 1400 SX crawler crane that boasts a raft of innovative operational safety functions. Details of all the winners and finalists and their projects can be found in the Awards section of ESTA’s website. Wagenborg and Fagioli dominate ESTA Awards
