36 CPA Bulletin > May 2024 www.cpa.uk.net LEGAL: 3 More flexibility for Paternity Leave The Paternity Leave (Amendment) Regulations 2024, which came into effect from 6th April, will allow employees taking statutory paternity leave to separate their two-week entitlement into two separate one-week entitlements. In addition, the employee may take their leave at any time within the first year of the child’s birth. Previously, the employee had to take a single two-week absence, and this had to be taken within the first 8 weeks of the birth. Employees now only have to give their employer 28 days’ notice for each week of leave they intend to take, which is far shorter than the 15-week notice previously required. However, they still need to give notice of their upcoming entitlement 15 weeks before the expected date of birth.
