CPA Bulletin

www.cpa.uk.net CPA Bulletin > May 2024 5 FROM THE PRESIDENT FROM THE PRESIDENT At the CPA, we’ve got our own two flagship events coming up - Stars of the Future and the CPA Conference . Nominations for the Stars of the Future Apprentice Awards are currently being sifted through by the internal and external judging panel and we look forward to announcing the winners at the awards ceremony on 11th July near Coventry. There are some amazing prizes for Plant Mechanics, Plant Technicians, Hire Controllers, Plant Operatives, Apprentice Mentors and more. Stars of the Future has been running for over 10 years now and we’re extremely proud that it’s widely recognised as the premier awards event for apprentices and trainees in the construction plant sector. It’s really crucial that we recognise and reward the talent coming through in our industry. The CPA Conference will take place on 7th November 2024 and the theme for this year’s event is ‘Shaping the Future: Insights for the Plant-hire Sector’ . If you’ve attended the CPA Conference before, you’ll be familiar with our host - Merryn Myatt who is a former television presenter, newsreader and journalist. This year, Merryn will be joined by co-host Peter Haddock who many of you will be familiar with. You can read more on page 16. We’ll also look forward to catching up with members at a number of industry events. The CPA team will be exhibiting at Hillhead in Derbyshire and Rail Live in Stratford-upon-Avon, so please do come and say hello on our stands where you will receive a warm CPA welcome. Events Season Underway It’s certainly been a busy fewmonths, and there is lots to look forward to over the months ahead. As this issue of the CPA Bulletin went to press, the CPA were represented at various events - at ScotPlant in Edinburgh and the INTERMAT show in Paris. It has been a real privilege being the UK judge for the INTERMAT Innovation Awards, and I would like to thank the INTERMAT organisers for a fantastic event and for inviting me to be part of the judging panel. Maria Reid It is with deepest regret that we inform members that our CPA colleague Maria Reid very sadly passed away at the beginning of April, following a brave battle with a brain tumour. Maria joined CPA in August 2017 and was an extremely valued member of the CPA membership team. She was the first point of contact for many members when calling the CPA office. Our thoughts are with Maria’s family at this very difficult and sad time.
