www.cpa.uk.net CPA Bulletin > August 2021 33 LEGAL: 2 The Government’s ‘Furlough Scheme’ will officially end on 30th September 2021. It was hoped by some sectors to continue for longer, but the Government confirmed on 14th June 2021 that it will not. Those employees who are on furlough will continue to receive 80% of their current monthly salary capped at £2,500 per month until the scheme ends. There are changes on the level of contributions given by the Government and employer to the employee from 1st July. Please see the table below. Furlough Scheme Contributions 1st July - 30th July 2021 1st August - 30th September 2021 Government 70% 60% Employer 10% 20% Changes to Expense Awards in Scottish Courts From 30th June 2021, Scottish courts will now apply the same rules as those in English and Welsh courts, where in the majority of cases, the parties seeking damages for personal injuries, or a fatality, will not be liable for their opponent’s expenses if their action fails. These new rules fall under the heading of ‘qualified one-way costs shifting’ (QOCS), and essentially restricts how the court makes the party bringing the claim liable for the other party’s expenses, provided that the claiming party has conducted themselves during the proceedings in an “appropriate manner”. There is great interest from the legal profession on how these rules will apply in qualifying cases from this date forward. www.alimak.com ACCESS ANYTIME, ANYWHERE ALIMAK CONSTRUCTION HOISTS The Alimak Scando 650 range of construction hoists are available in a variety of sizes and speeds to meet the need of every construction project.
