Special interest groups SPECIAL INTEREST GROUPS: 1 www.cpa.uk.net CPA Bulletin > August 2018 51 British Concrete Pumping Group (BCPG) The British Concrete Pumping Group met in October 2017 with the date and venue for the next meeting to be confirmed. Construction Hoist Interest Group (CHIG) The next Steering Committee and Open meetings for the Construction Hoist Interest Group (CHIG) will take place on 3rd and 4th October 2018 respectively, at The Oak Hotel, 8640 Stratford Road, Hockley Heath B94 5NW. Crane Interest Group (CIG) The next CIG Open meeting will take place on the 19th September 2018 at Nuthurst Grange, Hockley Heath B94 5NL. Suction and Vacuum Excavator Special Interest Group (SAVE) The Suction and Vacuum Excavator (SAVE) Special Interest Group, Steering Committee last met on 3rd May 2018 with the agenda for meeting covering a range of topics including, Update on the launch of the Good Practice Guide for the Safe Use of Suction/Vacuum Excavators, Standardisation of Manufacturer’s Instructions and Future Projects and Guidance Development Requirements. The next steering committee meeting will take place on 6th November 2018 at Balfour Beatty, Raynesway, Derby DE21 7BG. Shoring Technology Interest Group (STIG) The Steering Committee last met on 17th July 2018 and held a very successful Shoring Technology Open meeting where delegates were invited to participate in discussions relating to the current and future key issues facing the shoring hire industry, in addition to receiving presentations on BIM, benefits of STIG membership and Part 3 (Management of Shoring in Excavations) Selection of Shoring Equipment guidance document. The next Steering Committee meeting will be held on 12th September 2018. Tower Crane Interest Group (TCIG) The Steering Committee last met on 13th June 2018 with the agenda for meeting covering a range of topics including, Technical Information Note (TIN) revisions and update - Lifting of pre-slung loads, Falling objects and tethering, TE of self-erecting cranes, Public Enquiry on prEN 17076 Tower Cranes - Anti-Collision systems safety, Update on revision of CIRIA tower crane base and tie guide and Tower Crane base design and construction. The steering committee proposed a TCIG Open meeting should take place in autumn with the date and venue to be confirmed. Training On Plant In Construction (TOPIC) The TOPIC Steering Committee hosted a Training on Plant in Construction Forum on 25th April. This special one-off meeting was held to discuss the recruitment, training, development and retention of a skilled workforce in the plant hire sector. As well as identifying issues and solutions, the aimwas to establish partnership working to develop and implement solutions. CPA Members, contractors, clients, FE colleges and commercial training providers were invited, as well as trade bodies and CITB, with the intent to gain support and commitment from companies, to encourage knowledgeable participants who are willing and able to make a positive contribution to the work required to address current and future issues affecting the construction plant hire sector.
