CPA Bulletin
www.cpa.uk.net CPA Bulletin > August 2022 5 FROM THE CHIEF EXECUTIVE FROM THE CHIEF EXECUTIVE Diesel fuels, alternative power We are continuing to work with the Construction Leadership Council (CLC), the Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy (BEIS), manufacturers and others to keep a pragmatic view foremost in the minds of policy makers who might be tempted to force a premature adoption of alternatives to diesel engine power in the plant sector. More companies are moving from fossil fuel to HVO and similar, but it is axiomatic to us that drop-in liquid fuels for diesel engines will remain the major part of the energy source for mobile construction plant for many years. One of our areas of concern is long term availability of suitable, sustainably-sourced low GHG fuels. We are also researching issues around hydrogen, both as a combustion fuel and in fuel cells. If you have any experience of these issues in your fleet, and are willing to share information with us, please contact Chris Cassley ( chris.cassley @ cpa.uk.net ) or me. Trade shows and events It was good to meet Members at Vertikal Days, Hillhead and at Rail Live. We benefit from hearing your concerns first hand. Our annual apprentice awards event - Stars of the Future - took place in early July, and our next major open event will be the CPA Conference on 20th October 2022. Special Interest Groups will be holding Open Meetings in the autumn, so please watch out for announcements about those. The team and I hope to see you there.
