www.cpa.uk.net CPA Bulletin > August 2023 23 PLANT THEFT: 2 • 26th April - Mervyn Plant Hire was the victim of a potential fraudster - ‘Mark’ - who tried to obtain a 14-tonne excavator for a sports and country club in Brentford claiming to work for M&H Civil Engineering, giving the number 07405 369525. • 28th April - this same person contacted Whitnell Plant Hire , and tried to obtain a similar machine for a site in Brentford. • 4th May - WowNow Hire was contacted by this person - now called ‘Mike’ - looking to hire a 20-tonne excavator for a site in Iver, Buckinghamshire. • 4th May - Active Plant was contacted by the same person - now called ‘Michael Horrigan’ -looking to hire a 3-tonne dumper in Romford. • 14th June - Claude Fenton was contacted by a ‘Paul’ claiming to be from CP Construction, and wanted to hire a 6m telehandler , to be delivered to Iver in Buckinghamshire. The number used was 07448 962868. • June 16th - WowNow Hire was contacted by a ‘John’ claiming to work for Pavenet then Harringtons and wanted to hire a 6m telehandler to be delivered to Iver in Buckinghamshire. The number used was 07488 962868. • 20th June - MTS Group had 4 Yanmar mini excavators stolen from their Wakefield depot. The serial numbers are SV15 - YCESV15VVCBA17823; SV17 - YCESV17VPDBB04078; SV17 - YCESV17VTDBB07643; and SV08 - YMRSV08YTNCJ1E584. • 23rd June - MTS Group was contacted by a ‘Peter’ claiming to work for Peter Duffy Ltd and wanted to hire a 3-tonne dumper The number used was 07448 962868. A similar caller rang GAP Group on an identical number. • 29th June - O’Hara Surfacing reported a Hitachi ZX26U mini excavator was stolen from a site in Godalming, Surrey. • 29th June - Buckingham Plant was contacted by a ‘Jim Bennett’ claiming to work for Kier, and was offering plant companies a variety of surplus plant and equipment which was used on various projects including HS2. The email address he is using is jim.kiergroupplc@gmail.com although the email ended with ‘constructionsales @ jimbennett-kier.co.uk ’. • 30th June - Mech Plant North west was contacted by a ‘Steve’ claiming to work for Hopkinson Civil Engineering, and urgently wanted a micro digger delivering to 1 Tell Street, Rochdale, OL12 6AH. He claimed to have a Purchase Order too. The number used, has been previously circulated to members - 07448 962868. He has also claimed to work for Roswick.
