A recent report has been published by the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO), which has been drafted to help companies understand the growing threat of cyber-attacks - whether by Organised Criminal Groups (OCGs) or rogue states – on companies supply chains. The ICO’s report has highlighted the growing trend of cyber criminals targeting major organisations’ IT systems by penetrating their security systems via third parties’ systems, with one security company reporting a 300% increase in cyber-attacks on their client’s supply chains since COVID ended, and another report from two years ago, found that less than half of companies had carried out any form of risk assessment on their supply chain. It is recommended that organisations must prioritise their own internal security procedures, whilst encouraging their supply chains to take similar steps on security procedures, including staff education.
