www.cpa.uk.net CPA Bulletin > November 2020 13 POLICY: 2 Regulation, EU notified bodies, CE marking, UK designated standards, UKCA marking and the longer-term prospects of (de) harmonisation and (de)alignment. • Data Adequacy: business awareness of the potential impact and mitigating actions on data flow in the event of no agreement with the EU and no decision by the European Commission on the UK’s ‘data adequacy’. At the end of September, under the data adequacy workstream, the Brexit working group had already issued guidance on General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) which applies to all companies operating in the EU or who have EU based customers. For CPA members, this is most likely to apply to companies operating in Northern Ireland who hire machines to companies based in the Republic of Ireland (or in cases, to mainland Europe). For further information on what this means and how it applies to construction companies, go to www.constructionleadershipcouncil.co.uk/ wp-content/uploads/2020/09/EU-Exit-Business-Readiness_Data- Protection-and-GDPR_what-should-you-be-doing-now_V1.pdf Both Build UK and the CBI have created websites which outline the latest details on Brexit and further information on the potential impact Brexit will have. This also outlines some of the steps and issues companies should be looking to consider. Further information can be found at https://brexit.builduk.org/ and www.cbi.org.uk/uk- transition . Both are updated regularly. The CPA’s work in supporting members As we move towards the end of the year and the culmination of the negotiations, the CPA will regularly keep members up to date and aware of any changes that might impact on their business and areas they have to consider or investigate further. This includes holding a webinar planned on November 19th, giving the latest news and details on Brexit and the work the government is taking on supporting business ahead of January 1st. Although with all things related to Brexit, it is not guaranteed, the state of our future relationship with the EU should by the time we host the webinar, clearer in terms of whether a deal has been agreed or not. The webinar builds on the successful series we held in the summer which concentrated on construction’s role in COVID-19 and the government’s support measures. For members and the wider construction sector, it has been a year like no other. As we move towards 2021, the CPA will be working closely with you and our colleagues across construction in making sure your voice is heard and counts - both now and into the future.
