22 CPA Bulletin > November 2021 www.cpa.uk.net TECHNICAL & SAFETY: 2 TIN 036 - Tower Crane Electrical Supplies, Earthing Arrangements, Emergency Escape Lighting and Lightning Protection TIN 036 provides guidance to tower crane hirers (users) about the provision of tower crane electrical supplies, emergency escape lighting and lightning protection and includes guidance on inspection and testing following installation and whilst in service. The TIN has increased from two to five pages compared to the previous version and has an increased focus and additional content on a range of topics, including relevant electrical regulatory compliance requirements, earth-bonding arrangements, electrical supply for both crane operation and marking requirements, mechanical and electrical protection, and isolation devices. This guidance however is not intended to extend to the electrical equipment and circuits on the crane that were provided by the crane manufacturer at time of first supply. Safe Use Guidance on Emergency Action Planning & Rescue FromHeight on Tower Cranes Emergency Action Planning & Rescue From Height on Tower Cranes was first introduced as a TIN (013) a number of years ago, with its primary purpose being to provide guidance on what emergency actions should take place for the rescue of persons from height on tower cranes so that wherever tower cranes are erected, the emergency response and rescue of persons from height - although required infrequently - should be planned for. TIN 013 has been updated during 2021 by TCIG members but due to the extent and depth of the revised content, it has been converted into a full-sized safe use publication. All Special Interest Group publications and TINs can be downloaded free of charge from the publications section within the CPAwebsite. Tower Crane Publications Updates The CPA’s Tower Crane Interest Group has recently updated several of their Technical Information Notes.
