30 CPA Bulletin > November 2021 www.cpa.uk.net ‘Spotted’ in Hull Flannery Plant Hire is raising money for BBC Children in Need with the help of specially branded spotty diggers. The Flannery spotty machines have been working in Hull alongside the BBC DIY SOS team and other volunteers to transform an empty 2.5 acre field into a purpose-built ‘adventure camping site’ for the St Michael’s Youth Project. This outdoor sanctuary will allow children and youngsters from inner city areas to get close to nature and enjoy breaks away from their homes. Working with children and young people in Hull and the surrounding areas for over 30 years, St Michael’s delivers a variety of activities aimed at improving the physical and emotional health and wellbeing of children and young people, while supporting them to raise their aspirations for the future and encouraging them to reach their full potential. Patrick Flannery, Flannery Plant Hire Managing Director, said: “We at Flannery are immensely pleased to support the DIY SOS: The Big Build team for the third year with a range of our machines for the duration of the charity build in Hull. A separate big thank you to JCB, our plant supplier, for supporting this initiative, and to our operators, who are working so hard alongside other volunteers to make the camping site live!” The spotty diggers are now available to hire with 100% of the rental charge being donated to the Children in Need charity. The DIY SOS show is due to air in November during BBC Children in Need Appeal week. With 80-99% of the built environment’s total carbon footprint coming from their supply chain, the Sustainability Tool’s carbon calculator will play an integral role in supporting businesses in their fight against climate change. Charles Naud, Head of Product at Sustainability Tool, said: “With COP26 approaching swiftly, there’s never been a more appropriate time for companies to delve into their supply chains for carbon measurement and reporting. The carbon calculator will be a company’s greatest ally in their quest to reach net zero and reduce their carbon emissions.” The carbon calculator’s purpose is twofold. To support supply chains with calculating their greenhouse gas emissions, and to provide clients with a view of emissions embedded in their supply chains. Suppliers can either input their emissions by scope (if those are already known to them), or complete a simple report covering fossil fuel, company travel, gas, electricity consumption, materials, waste and water data. Upon completion, the report automatically calculates emissions in a dashboard that supports submissions to Streamlined Energy and Carbon Reporting (SECR) and other carbon reporting frameworks. The system also permits suppliers to apportion a percentage of their carbon emissions to clients based on financial turnover. The carbon calculator is offered free-of- charge to Supply Chain Sustainability School members.
