CPA Bulletin
36 CPA Bulletin > November 2021 www.cpa.uk.net As introduced in the last CPA Bulletin, a research programme has been actioned to identify the current training landscape within themembership. This is to identify any effectivemethods that CPA could provide in terms of training and competency provision support for themembership. Pye Tait - a well-respected research organisation with a good track record - was chosen to conduct the survey fromwhich various meetings were held to determine the brief, research methods, levels of engagement and programme of works. The inception, scoping and planning phases included devising and trialling a series of questions for both an on-line survey and direct contact with members by Pye Tait staff. The fieldwork phase subsequently commenced fromwhich the online survey went live in early October, with a pre-brief message sent to CPAmembers explaining about the process and seeking their support. Pye Tait further sent reminder emails and telephone ‘chase-ups’ to encourage completion of the survey. A number of CPAmembers and Special Interest Group members were further contacted via a telephone interview using pre-devised questions. The research stages were finalised by a workshop for volunteered members. Pye Tait are subsequently evaluating the findings and preparing and presenting their report, initially to the Council sub-group, for early December 2021. This will allow the group to discuss the findings and recommend a number of measures to the CPA Council where additional support measures can be provided to the membership. TRAINING TRAINING: 1 Plant Occupations Training Provision - Feasibility and Research Study Plant Sector Representative Organisation - Update The Board of the Plant Sector Representative Organisation (PSRO) met in September to further progress development of the organisation. The PSRO is a partnership of construction-based federations including CPA and has now become an independent limited company following registration at Companies House by CPA, the current Chair and administrators of the PSRO. Further updates were provided on the relationship protocols with the Construction Leadership Council (CLC), CSCS and CITB. The Board also approved the Technical Review Group’s terms of reference and signed-off the plant occupations competency framework, fromwhich evaluations of card schemes seeking to bear or maintain the CSCS logo can go ahead by the technical review group. The Board further endorsed the proposal to support and develop an eco-operating training standard through industry-wide consultation (as detailed on page 37 of this bulletin) and offering it as an ‘open-source’ programme that can be adopted by any certificating body. This will ensure national availability and consistency amongst available programmes. The technical review group will co-ordinate this work. Meetings have also been held between the PSRO and CITB staff to discuss working arrangements between them as a requisite part of the Construction Leadership Council’s criteria for card schemes, fromwhich a protocol has been devised to formally cement the relationship between the two parties. CPA continue to play a leading role within the PSRO.
