In October, the alliance carried out its third humanitarian convoy to a Slovakian town, Chminianska Nová Ves, near to the border of Ukraine, where volunteers from Rotary International distributed aid via their humanitarian centres to those affected by the war. Well done to all those involved who ensured that vital supplies such as food, hygiene items, thermal clothing and bedding were distributed to those in need. These items will make a huge difference to the people of Ukraine as they struggle with the coming winter. With temperatures dropping to sub-zero both day and night, many of these items are literally the difference between life and death. Eight vans formed part of the convoy, all manned by volunteers from the plant-hire sector, namely Ardent Hire, Wilson Hire, Watling JCB, Molson, L Lynch Plant Hire & Haulage and GAP. A total of 750 boxes were delivered, fully stocked with generous donations from dozens of companies and individuals. The CPA has made a donation to purchase 10 Generators and sponsored a vehicle to transport goods during the convoy. Help Give Ukrainian Children a Christmas This Year Children are the innocent victims in this war. Families continue to be split up, with many being killed, including children. Homes and livelihoods have been destroyed and millions of families face an uncertain future. As the Russian advances into Ukraine persist, children bear the brunt of the suffering, with many likely to carry emotional scars for life. The Plant and Hire Aid Alliance wants to try and bring a little joy into children’s lives this Christmas. Last year the alliance managed to collect, wrap and send 30,000 presents to the children of Ukraine. These gifts were distributed by Rotary International and received support from prominent figures such as Ukraine’s leading fashion designer, Andre Tan, and the former Head of the Luhansk Regional Military-Civil Administration, Serhiy Haidai. This campaign received significant coverage on national Ukrainian TV and extended its reach to schools, orphanages, hospitals and even Russian-occupied Mariupol. The alliance is collecting toys and gifts to give Ukrainian children another Christmas this year. If you wish to contribute, please wrap your gift(s) in Christmas paper and label them with details such as whether they are for a boy or girl and the appropriate age range. Kindly send all gifts to the following address before 5th December 2023. Plant and Hire Aid Alliance at c/o Ardent Hire Solutions, 289-297 Felixstowe Road, Ipswich, IP3 9BS.
