Supt. Andy Huddleston and DS Chris Piggott gave an overview of the unit’s history, the make-up of the team itself, and its successes - including the recovery of £1.7m of construction plant and related equipment in 2023. This level of success continues in 2024 - with just over £1.2m recovered in the first six months of 2024. To access a recording of the CPA/NCATT webinar please email David Smith - david @ cpa.uk.net • 7th August - Fraudster(s) claiming to be ‘ Chris ’ or ‘ James ’ from Ovenden Plant, were looking for 2 x Stage V 60kVA generators and 1,000 litres of fuel for two sites in London. • 7th August - Metcalfe Plant had a Takeuchi TB210R excavator stolen from Tirril, Penrith, Cumbria. • 21st August - NCATT circulated an alert concerning a Lewis Faulds of Advanced Roofing & Building, and Hugh Carlyle of HC Roofing & Building, where both businesses are based in Ayr. • 21st August - Garic was contacted by fraudster ‘ John Andrew ’ claiming to be from Caddick Construction, and wanted plant delivered to John Street, Failsworth, Manchester and Chester Road, Stockport. • 27th August - Eynesbury Plant was contacted by a ‘ Mark ’ and wanted plant delivered to a site in Hertford, Hertfordshire. • 28th August - Corr Plant had a father ‘ John ’, and son, ‘ Steve ’, wanting plant delivered to an address in Hertford. • 30th August - J Murphy & Sons were targeted by fraudsters who claimed to be working for them and were attempting to sell ‘old’ Murphy stock. • 6th September - Lewis Plant Services was the victim of a fraudster, ‘ John Thompson ’ where a Takeuchi TB217 mini-excavator was stolen. • 9th September - GCE Hire Fleet was contacted by a fraudster who claimed to work for GLK Group and wanted a Volvo EC220/250EL . • 11th September - Rock Thorn was contacted by a ‘ John Andrew ’ claiming to be from Caddick Construction. • 12th September - WHC Tool & Plant was approached by a ‘ John ’ claiming to be from JRS Construction wanting a 1.5 and 3-tonne excavators for a site in Chesham, Hertfordshire. • 14th September - CBP (Services) had a Bobcat E08 a Belle BMD300 stolen - by fraudulent means - by a Nicholas Thompson after they were delivered to Genworth, Cheshire. • 17th September - MCS Plant had a Epiroc SB-102 breaker stolen from their depot in Oldbury. • 19th September - Briggs & Stratton had a Volvo EC18-D excavator stolen from a site in Pocklington, York. • 21st September - FGS Plant had a 2022 14m JCB telehandler stolen from Southernwood Retail Park, Old Kent Road. • 23rd September - John F Hunt was approached by an Edward McCormack of ETM Contractors wanting two generators for a site in London. • 25th September - Manchester Cabins was approached by an individual claiming to be ‘ AdamHarding ’ of BAM Construction and wanted to order 4 x 20’ containers for a site in Oldham. • 30th September - Warrior Worx had a 1-tonne dumper stolen - by fraudulent means – also by a Nicholas Thompson after they were delivered to Garsforth. • 2nd October - NCATT circulated a warning of John Rogers of Rogers Civil Engineering who tried to order a 5-tonne dumper for an address in Windmill Lane, Southam. • 2nd October - John Horton Plant Hire was approached by someone claiming to be from Dale Engineering, Gilbert O’Neill Construction , and Woodfield Building Services - all based in Cannock, where the fraudster was looking to hire 8 or 14-tonne tracked excavator . • 7th October - Metcalfe Plant Hire had a 2019 Takeuchi TB210R excavator stolen from a site in Penrith, Cumbria. • 11th October - NCATT circulated a warning regarding a JohnWatt of Brook Star Ltd of Bury, Lancashire, who had ordered numerous telehandlers, which had disappeared. • 11th October - Ovenden Plant hire were the victims of an impersonation attempt by someone claiming to be James Ovenden . Similar to the incident reported on 7th August.
