26 CPA Bulletin > November 2024 www.cpa.uk.net NEWS FROM CPA MEMBERS: 5 Sir Robert McAlpine Partners with Datatag ID to combat Tool Theft at Contractor Event Double Digit Fuel Savings Sir Robert McAlpine has partnered with Datatag ID, a specialist in forensic marking, to enhance security and combat tool theft in a unique event designed for contractors. The collaboration between Sir Robert McAlpine and Datatag, following a recent high value theft of tools, highlights their commitment to safeguarding tools and reducing criminal activity on their sites. The special event hosted on-site, saw contractors introduced to Datatag’s cutting-edge forensic marking technology which combines invisible markers, microdots, and tamper-evident warning labels to mark tools with unique identifiers that can be easily traced by the police. Once applied, these markers are virtually impossible to remove, offering a lifetime solution for identifying stolen property. The unique identifier is registered in Datatag’s secure database, which can be accessed by law enforcement making it easier to identify stolen goods and prosecute criminals. The event was not only an opportunity for contractors to get their tools marked on the day but also to learn about the importance of tool security and theft prevention. Representatives from Datatag demonstrated how the technology works, explaining its benefits and effectiveness in deterring theft. By proactively marking their tools, contractors reduce the risk of theft and mitigate the losses often associated with it. Dave Luscombe, Special Projects Lead at Datatag commented: “We’ve long known about the issue of tool theft and its’ recent rise has been well documented in the press and on social media. We were very happy to help McAlpine’s forward thinking efforts in tackling this and the constant stream of contractors coming through was encouraging, showing as it did a willingness to have tools marked and a belief in the deterrent that this sees.” SulNOx, the greentech innovation company, has carried out a generator-based study which has demonstrated significant fuel consumption and emissions reductions. The study was conducted in partnership with Templant Group and was undertaken over five weeks at the high security, controlled access premises of Minton Treharne and Davies Ltd. Templant provided and maintained a 100kVA generator, which was operated continuously at an 80% load capacity. Templant organised fuel deliveries, applied SulNOxEco Diesel Conditioner at a 1:2000 ratio and monitored the load, generator status and fuel usage of the generator, ensuring no break in fuel supply. The results showed that fuel consumption was reduced by 14.5%, along with substantial reductions in both greenhouse gases and particulate matter also responsible for both global warming and air quality issues. The key emissions reductions were: • Carbon Dioxide (CO2) Reduced by 26.7% • Sulphur Oxide Emissions (SOx) Reduced by 63% • Nitrogen Oxides (NOx) Reduced by 14% • Carbon Monoxide (CO) Reduced by 7% • Black Smoke / Particulate Matter (PM10 and PM2.5) Reduced by more than 96% Following the successful evaluation, SulNOx Group has partnered with Templant and signed a distribution agreement for Templant to roll out SulNOxEco Conditioner to their clients across the UK. This partnership aims to extend the benefits of reduced fuel consumption and lower emissions to a broader range of applications in heavy plant use and other industrial generator-based scenarios including construction, events and data centres. Templant’s MD, Chris Allen said: “These numbers are very impressive indeed, clearly demonstrating SulNOxEco Conditioner’s effectiveness in reducing fuel consumption and emissions on every measure. Achieving significant reductions in particulate matter and greenhouse gases as a result of the Conditioner promoting cleaner and more efficient combustion is a very compelling, instantly deployable proposition for many of our clients who are also concerned with air quality. The added benefit of SulNOx’s lubricant and detergency package in extending the life of an engine and its parts is also hugely valuable to our industry.”
