Special interest groups SPECIAL INTEREST GROUPS www.cpa.uk.net CPA Bulletin > December 2018 51 British Concrete Pumping Group (BCPG) The last meeting of the British Concrete Pumping Group took place at Nuthurst Grange on Thursday 1st November 2018. A full report will be given in the next Bulletin Construction Hoist Interest Group (CHIG) The CHIG Steering Committee and Open meetings took place at The Oak Hotel, Hockley Heath on Wednesday 3rd and Thursday 4th October respectively. The agendas for both meetings highlighted and covered a range of topics and issues, including: • Update on the Rescue from Height on Hoists Guidance document draft 5 • Transport PlatformWorking Group update • Update on the revision of CHIG Guidance documents, • Tie and Base Design Guidance update, • Medical Fitness - Safety Critical Worker Assessments, Prequalification Questionnaires, • The Competence of People Carrying out Thorough Examinations • Update on the Trailblazer Apprenticeship for Hire Desk Controller. The next CHIG Steering Committee and Open meetings will take place at The Oak Hotel on the 9th and 10th October 2019 respectively. Crane Interest Group (CIG) The CIG Open meeting took place at Nuthurst Grange on the 19th September 2018 and the agenda covered a number of key points and issues for discussion and debate including: • The removal of MOT exemption for Mobile Cranes • The launch of the CPA Voluntary Roadworthiness Inspection Scheme • The European Crane Operator’s Licence • The new part of BS 7121 and ongoing revisions • Mobile Cranes alongside railways update • Thorough Examination of Strut Jib Cranes after rigging • The revision of the CPA guidance on Contract Lifting • A Strategic Forum Plant Safety Group update • Lifting Technician Trailblazer Apprenticeship • CPA and CIG future planning. The next meeting of the CIG Steering Committee will take place in early 2019. Suction and Vacuum Excavator Special Interest Group (SAVE) The last Suction and Vacuum Excavator steering committee meeting took place on Tuesday 6th November 2018 at Balfour Beatty, Raynesway, Derby DE21 7BG. A full report will be given in the next Bulletin Shoring Technology Interest Group (STIG) The Shoring Technical and Steering Committee last met on Wednesday 12th September 2018 and the agenda raised a number of key points and issues for discussion during the meeting including the future of CITB and the provision of Shoring Training within the UK, progress of Shoring TIN’s update and an update on the progress of the Management of Shoring Part 3 guidance document. The next Shoring Technical and Steering Committee meeting will take place on Wednesday 5th December 2018 at the Cuttle Bridge Inn, Curdworth, Birmingham B76 9DP. Tower Crane Interest Group (TCIG) The last Tower Crane Open meeting took place at Wyboston Lakes Resort on Thursday 18th October 2018. A full report will be given in the next Bulletin Training On Plant In Construction (TOPIC) The TOPIC steering committee last met on Tuesday 18th September 2018 at Nuthurst Grange and discussed a number of key points and issues including: • The future of CPCS • Stars of the Future 2019 • The future of CITB • The CITB Training Directory and ATO’s • Trailblazer Apprenticeship Update • The Construction Industry Levy Order and scope. An action and outcome of this meeting was to make an approach to CITB and request representation at an extra-ordinary steering committee meeting.
