The JCB telehandler and a mini excavator have been created to help the hirer’s fundraising programme for the charity this year. The machines have been used to support a huge team of volunteers to complete the conversion of a rundown church hall. The building, originally built in the early 1800’s, has been transformed into accommodation and a support centre for Nightsafe - a Blackburn charity which provides support to young people aged 16 to 24 who are homeless or vulnerably housed. The show aired in November during BBC Children in Need appeal week. Patrick Flannery, Flannery Plant Hire Managing Director, said: “This year we decided to focus our company-wide fundraising efforts on BBC Children in Need. Our spotty digger and telehandler have been on-site in Blackburn for just over three weeks. It has been a fantastic team effort and the amount of work completed is phenomenal. As a company we are very proud to support this cause and are very grateful to our suppliers, including JCB, for supporting this initiative.” The spotty machines are now available to hire from Flannery Plant Hire with all of the rental charge being donated to BBC Children in Need. As well as going out on customer sites, the machines will also be used at fundraising events to raise more money for the charity. Suction excavator manufacturer RSP has launched a new training and testing facility at the company’s UK headquarters. The new facility in Bedford will provide training and live testing for all operators who wish to enhance their skills and safety when using a suction excavator. RSP UK Director Lloyd Gardener said: “We want to encourage our industry to increase safety standards for the future. We were absolutely thrilled when NOCN approved us as a Construction Part Competence Scheme (CPCS) Test Centre and we believe in CPCS becoming the construction industry’s preferred accreditation. I am proud to be a member of the SAVE (Suction and Vacuum Excavation) board alongside other suction excavator companies and we are all working together to pave the way for the future of our industry. “It is important to us that our training and testing facilities are available to all suction excavator operators, not just our clients. We are very serious about raising the industry standard and would encourage all owners to invest in training and testing not just to ensure the best use out of their excavator but also to establish the correct safety standards for your team,” he added. The CPCS A78 VacuumExcavator test will cover two parts - a theory test where the operator must be able to show sound knowledge and understanding of themachine and its features, followed by a practical test which will assess their operation of the vehicle and several safe manoeuvres. RSP UK’smanufacturing is based out of Germany where the teamare innovators in developing suction excavation system technology and creating additional features that will enhance operator and site use.
