Through his company Langside Consulting, Ian will be providing technical consultancy services to the association and its special interest groups, including the Crane Interest Group (CIG), the Tower Crane Interest Group (TCIG) and the Construction Hoist Interest Group (CHIG). Ian is a Chartered Mechanical Engineer and brings with him over 40 years’ of experience of working in industry and health and safety regulation. In his previous role as a Principal Specialist Inspector with the Health and Safety Executive (HSE), Ian was responsible for the investigation of many serious accidents arising from the use of construction plant, access and lifting equipment. Ian has sat on various BSI committees and chaired the MHE3/11 Crane Safety Committee responsible for the BS7121 Crane Safety series of standards. CPA Chief Executive Kevin Minton said: “Ian has a wealth of knowledge and experience, and we welcome him as a strong addition to our team. Our Special Interest Groups will undoubtedly benefit from his contribution.” Ian Simpson adds to CPA’s Technical Capability Stars of the Future 2020 We are pleased to confirm that the next annual Stars of the Future awards ceremony will be hosted on Wednesday 10th June 2020, once again at the Heart of England Conference and Events Centre in Fillongley, near Coventry. Stars of the Future recognises the UK’s most promising apprentices and trainees in the construction plant sector and the awards scheme is now in its eighth year. Each year it has grown in stature and the 2020 event promises to be even bigger and better than ever. Traditionally, Stars of the Future has rewarded Plant Mechanics but the scope of the 2020 event will be extended even further. New awards categories will be introduced, with national and regional awards for Plant Mechanics, Plant Technicians, Lifting Technicians, Plant Operators and Hire Controllers, in recognition of the introduction of new trailblazer apprenticeships. Nominations are welcomed from employers and CPA members are urged to nominate colleagues who they believe should be recognised as a star in the making. Nomination forms will be available on the CPA website from 1st January 2020 at www.cpa.uk.net A Careers Fair is planned to run alongside CPA Stars of the Future 2020 and we are inviting a select number of companies to exhibit at the event, to showcase careers opportunities to some of the industry’s most promising apprentices and trainees. This event will allow you to interact with and highlight your company to future stars of the industry.
